WHAT TO EXPECT

As the Engineering Tech Lead within our Accounts & Security team, you will take a leading role in delivering scalable cloud-based applications and services powering one of the world’s leading B2C communications providers.

You will have experience establishing a culture of inclusivity and technical excellence. You will support the Technical Lead and Engineering Manager to mentor and coach engineers to deliver software to a high standard through an agile, collaborative approach.

You will use your experience, passion and pragmatism to inspire and guide the team to achieve its goals and commitments. You will work with the Engineering Manager to ensure the team is performing, learning and improving, while delivering high quality software that delights our customers.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

The role holder will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the Engineering Manager with coaching and mentoring a team of software engineers working in a Feature Team model to deliver applications and business solutions
  • Taking part in all stages of the software development lifecycle as part of a close-knit, highly collaborative and continuously improving team
  • Delivering software to a high standard across our full range of products and services
  • Shaping Commify’s engineering practices and standards
  • Supporting the wider engineering community with good practices, as well as suggesting and sharing solution designs for technical workstreams
  • Working closely with Engineering Managers, Architects and Product Owners to incorporate technical input into stories and designs
  • Ensuring sprint goals are met whilst removing risks and technical barriers to delivery
  • Working with the Product Owner to keep track of and remediate technical debt
  • Embedding CI/CD best practices and frameworks by working with SRE Engineers to deliver predictable, fully tested, and automated deployments
  • Close collaboration with architects to align technical and solutions architecture of the applications built by the team to the target end-state and defined standards
  • Leading agile fixtures including daily stand-ups, sprint planning and retrospectives
  • Driving a positive experience within the team, and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Driving innovation by advocating new tools, processes and technical developments
  • Ensuring documentation and appropriate technical specifications are created and shared between the relevant engineering stakeholders
  • Clearly communicating development impacts and updates to the team and wider business, with collaboration from the Engineering Manager and Product Owners involved

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The job holder will be an exceptional candidate with a proven track record in a similar role. In particular you are required to have:

Essential

  • Extensive background in Software Engineering and delivering complex initiatives within an agile working environment
  • Experience with C#, .NET Core and Angular
  • Experience of extreme programming (XP) techniques, values and principles
  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD)
  • Experience using Microsoft Azure PaaS features to deliver scalable, cloud-based solutions
  • Experience of designing and implementing REST APIs
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Azure Resource Manager
  • Experience of delivering event driven architectures via distributed services/microservices
  • Experience in maturing agile practices aligned to Scrum and Lean ways of working
  • Experience of mentoring/coaching team members from a technical perspective
  • Clear and confident when communicating to both colleagues and clients
  • Creative problem-solving

Desirable

  • Experience delivering high-throughput software deployed globally
  • Demonstrable ability to articulate resource capacity across multiple streams of work
  • Knowledge of containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes, etc)
  • Experience working with distributed international teams
  • Exposure to Atlassian JIRA and Confluence
